Outlander Casts Richard Rankin as Roger

The search for Roger MacKenzie is finally over. Fan favorite Richard Rankin has been cast in the part. Starz made the announcement official today by letting fans know first on Twitter:

Rankin made sure to let fans know he was thrilled to be cast in the role, tweeting his thanks:

The author of Outlander, Diana Gabaldon, also welcomed Rankin aboard, as did show EP Maril Davis and head writer, Matt Roberts:

Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, Roger's future Father-In-Law, offered his congratulations as well and urged him to #BringBri, a reference to Brianna:

Fans have been speculating for months over who was going to get the part offering their own opinions on who should be cast:

Fans, however, seemed to be overwhelmingly clamoring for Rankin from the beginning. Now it looks like they've got their wish. Many took to Twitter to voice their support for Rankin after the casting announcement was made:

It was a long search to find the right man, though there was speculation very early on that Rankin was the one who should and would be cast. We covered the character's background and some of the tapes that had been sent in as auditions in an earlier post, though many of those actors set their videos to private after it was made public. Now fans just have to wait for the casting of Brianna. We explain why we expect that announcement to come before the end of December in this post about the casting. Those scenes will most likely be filmed in the next couple of months after the show breaks for Christmas.
